Tim,

Interesting that you can rename .ai files to .pdf and they work. I wonder if
that is newer, or if it applies across Illustrator versions.

Check out
WebContent (Import PDF as HTML), V1.0.26
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/e...1005064&catid=0

It can import a PDF and then convert it to PDF. All the text is placed into
layers, so you'll have to do some copy and paste if your' looking for a
different format, but the images are also extracted. (at least they were when I
beta tested the extension).

Whoops. Meant that it converts to HTML from the starting PDF.

Renaming them pdf works here. Since I don't have Illustrator that was
the only option I had to see what they were at all.
