Making & Posting Corrections

| First off, I am truly a novice in this group. That said, I still have to find
an anwser to a web page I created and have posted for a client.
I am using Max OS 10.2.8 and DWX 2003, 6.1.
My client discovered that several of the links on their web page did not work.
I checked and sure enough they suddenly stopped working and so after peering at
the code, made the corrections. In Preview mode using Explorer 5.2.3, the
latest version for Mac's, all seemed well. However, once posted (that is the
second part of my question) it seems that none of the changes were made. And
then at the clients, it seemed that things that worked fine when I checked
using both AOL and Explorer online did not work on her computer using Windows
XP. What gives here?
I am a graphic designer with many years of Quark experience. I can't even
begin to explain my frustration with DWX and it seems that every step is laden
with landmines. The simplest task is difficult. And - I have about 6 books on
the software that I have read completely and still have problems. The second
part of my question (problem) is that when I try to upload the site that has
been revised I seem to have to define the site each and every time. Is that
normal? I have Blah Blah sites 1, 2, etc. Finally it seems to allow me to post.
In short, in spite of many hours trying I need HELP!

| This may not be related but I have encountered a similar thing. It does not happen all the time tho.
First thing you should do is see if someone else on another ISP can view the changes. If you use Instant Messenging, have someone on there check it for you.
Sometimes I will upload changes and I will not see them even if I refresh. I have found 2 things that cause this issue:
1. If the web server is running Apache, sometimes it takes 5-20 minutes for it to parse certain code types and display it properly.
2. The locally cached files are overriding the actual page contents. This can be resolved if you LS the remote DIR in the FTP program. I don't know why this happens but sometimes I cannot view changes until I refresh the remote directory from my FTP program.
I don't know if this helps but maybe it does? I don't use a Mac tho... Only part of one. ^_^ | |

| Thank you. I have not checked it today. Maybe you are right. I sure hope so.

| I looked at he site again Sunday and none of the changes have been uploaded. Am
I missing some step? And why do I have to redefine the site each time? I must
be missing some step that is causing all these problems.

| okay- you are on mac?
Open a new file using File-->New
---->Don't Save this File<----
Insert an image using the Image button on the Insert Bar
{put in any image that is INSIDE of your Local Site Folder}
look in the source-
The img tag should have a full hard drive path to the image- could you put
that in reply to the newgroup or forum?
<img src="file:///Macintosh%20HD/foldername1/foldername2/image.jpg">
Funky characters will show as url encoded with %something.
%20 is a blank space- it is Okay, as long as it isn't the first character of
the HD name.
if there is a "funky" character- the folder or HD will have to be renamed
for Dw to work correctly. The funky character is preventing dw from figuring
the path to the local site folder.
Technote-
http://www.macromedia.com/support/d...eview_in_browse
r_site_map.htm
or
http://macromedia.com/go/14452
in addition to the list of characters given in the technote- there's also a
problem with having a blank space as the first character of the HD name.
examples of bad folder names in the path down to the Local Site folder:
"fred's stuff" the comma
"Sept:2002" the colon
"02/September/2002" the slashes
