Author Problem adding content to file created from template

I'm redesigning my site with DMX and have created a new template built
with CSS. I copy the HTML content from my old page, paste it into the
main editable region of the template and then start tidying it up. This
works to a degree, but I often end up with the following problem.

Say I delete something I've just entered, be it a tag or whatever, then
click save, I get the following error message:

Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or a translator. The change will be discarded.

Thereafter, the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable --> and <!--
InstanceEndEditable --> show up in yellow and I am unable to do anything
to the content I've just added. I then have to start again with a new
page created from the template and repeat the process, hoping that the
problem won't recur. It's most annoying - is there any reason as to why
this might be happening?

Yes - you have deleted more than you thought. It's likely you have
inadvertantly grabbed the closing or opening bracket of the comment tags
defining the editable region. When this happens, you have to start looking
at your code.

I understand what you're saying Murray, and it is exactly the sort of
thing I expected it to be, but it's not that. I'm pasting content
between the editable region tags, saving it and all is well. I then
start editing the content, sometimes a long way between the editable
tags, yet the problem still occurs. I am then powerless to delete or,
indeed, add and save anything else to the content without the error
message appearing. The editable region tags are perfectly in tact too.

Now I've taken to creating a new basic HTML page, pasting and editing
the content there and then applying the template. So far, that method
seems to work better.

Cams:

The problem is always in the code. It's either something that you have done
inadvertantly, or something that DW has just discovered for unknown reasons
as a result of something you have done....
