| I don't get it...I'm trying to use anchors to move from one page to a specific
location on another page. I'm positive (at least 99.99% sure) that I'm doing it
correctly, but when I try it in a browser it doesn't work. I've checked the
knowledge base and it said that anchors sometimes don't work in tables. How
many of web pages aren't created in some sort of table? Are anchors useless
now? How can I get them to work?
I'm doing a pro-bono site and don't want to do a redesign should the anchors
don't work. They dropped it on me after the site was completed.
You can check out a sample at [L=]http://www.ba-doyn.com/build_test[/L]. Click
one the "Cafe & Coffees" link and the page will change and the anchor SHOULD
drop the page down to the top of the second paragraph that is in the left bar.
This is so frustrating.
Thanks,
Michael

There's two ways to do this:
1. Add an 'id' to the point on the page you want the link to jump to:
<p id="jump_point"><span class="indextitle">Cafés &
Coffee</span><br>
<span class="indextitle2">Click on web addresses to visit members'
sites.</span></p>
2. Add a named anchor to the point on the page you want the link to jump
to:
<p><span class="indextitle"><a name="jump_point">Cafés &
Coffee</a></span><br>
<span class="indextitle2">Click on web addresses to visit members'
sites.</span></p>
I think the first version will only work with v5 browsers. The second should
work with anything.
By the way, your link didn't work.

| I just get a file list when I go there. Which file should I open?
Nevermind - I figured it out.
You have this on the guide page -
<td width="159" class="category"><a href="coffee.htm#jump_point"
class="indextableoff">Cafés
so clicking on that link will take you to the named anchor (jump_point).
And you have this on the coffee page -
<TD height="805" valign="top" class="gleftyellow"> <p><a
name="jump_point"></a>A
<span class="gleftltyellow">better</span> buying experience
that
benefits <span class="gleftltyellow">you</span> — <br>
and that's exactly where it takes you.
So - what's the complaint? 8)

| That's strange. It works on the PC in IE but not on the Mac in IE. Works in Safari. Strange.
Thanks for all your help.
