Author Opaque Text Boxes?

Hi again; posted this question in the Fireworks forum and have only gotten
one reply...thought I'd try here!

I want to place a white, scrolling text box on top of a background picture,
and have the box be semi transparent. I then would like to (because of some
good feedback to another post I made earlier) place a call to a SSI to populate
that text box. (See [L=this
link]http://www.godsong.us/trial2/container.htm[/L] for an example of what I'm
talking about. Careful; it's a church website! :-) I created a picture in
fireworks of my vision for our website that really impressed my pastor...and
now I have to turn it into a functioning web site! Silly me...)

How do I do this??? (The opaque text box, I mean.) I'm stumped. Admitedly,
before a month or so ago I'd never used macromedia before, so maybe this is
pretty easy! :-)

By the way...any suggestions on what macromedia program to use to set the site
up? Should I go with dreamweaver? Or should I make it in Flash? Any comments
would be appreciated!

Thanks!!

Soooo....

Should I take the deafening silence to mean that nobody has ever successfully created a semi-transparent, scrolling text box placed over a background image before?

There's not a reliable way to do it cross-platform/browser. You can use
IE/Windows only transparency, as Al has done on his site -

Bummer!

So would I slice the image up in Fireworks, import the html into DW, then use
the tranparent parts as cell backgrounds? I suppose I could then put a text
box inside those cells.

Comments?

Well, in my last post I got pretty close to the answer. But before I got a
chance to try that theroy out, Joey from Ultradev.com replied to my post in the
FW forum, and suggested iframes. Here is my reply to him...I'm pretty jazzed
about it! Wanted to share it here in case anybody else was in my same position:

"Joey, you're a genius!!

Iframes is going to work GREAT for me!
[L=Here's]http://www.godsong.us/trial3[/L] a link to my latest trial; and
here's a description of what I've done:

-Sliced the image in FW
-Created a new blank HTML file
---Used the correct sliced image as the background for this simple page
-----Used CSS to make it not tile, and sit at 0,0
---Input content into the simple page
-In the main page, deleted the image in the cell I wanted to use, and created
a specific size iframe
-Used the simple html page created above as the source of the iframe

Viola! Works great!!

For the menu, I used the slice image as a background for the Flash document.

Woo Hoo!! It's finally starting to take shape!

Only problem so far is that a mac running os9 and ie5.1 wasn't rendering the
menu properly. Other than that, I'm excited!

Anyway, just wanted to thank everybody for the help you've provided, and
especially Joey for the excellent suggestion!

I'll be posting a similar thank you and explination in the DW thread. Just in
case you're reading this and thinking "didn't I read this somewhere already???"
:-)"

IFrames may not be the great hope - they have most of the same issues as
frames....
