Author Yahoo Merchant Extension for DWMX

Has anyone had success using this extension with DWMX?

When we try to update our product catalog in DW, we get the following error:

While executing onClick in YahooStore_Update.htm, the following JavaScript
error(s) occurred:
At line 165 of file "C\:PROGRAM FILES\MACROMEDIA\DREAMWEAVER
MX\Configuration\Commands\YahooStore_Update.js": exception thrown in native
function.

We are unable to proceed with work until we are able to make this update.
I'm on a PC, Win98SE using DWMX.

Thanks for any advice, or even just a point to somewhere I can find
troubleshooting documentation on this...

Joanna

Hello Joanna,

Usually that error means DW ran out of memory becuase it was working too
hard trying to execute the code. Often this message is followed by a crash.

I'm not familiar with the extension you're describing. Is there any contact
info for the extension maker? There may be an update available.

Good Luck,
~Angela

Hello Joanna,

My sister-in-law recently took an expensive Yahoo store class. She uses
Dreamweaver, and to my knowledge she was not aware of such an extension 2
months ago when she took it. (I write extensions, so I asked her if there
were any.)

Where did you find the extension? I can't test as I don't have a Yahoo
Store, but I could at least try it and see if I get an error. With luck, it
might be a simple fix...I'll try to help if I can find the solution easily.

Thanks,
~Angela

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your response. The extension seems to be made by Yahoo, and
their support for it is wanting. I'm using the only version available for
it.

DW didn't crash after delivering the error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled
the extension, to no avail.

I wish I could find someone else who's used DW to put a Yahoo Cart on a
site, I can't find anything related to this in searching the newsgroup - or
even searching the web!

Thanks again,

Joanna

Yes I am trying to use it with the new Merchant Solutions but it has problems. It does seem to be memory intensive and so does Yahoo's Sitebuilder program. Both choke on large stores. We have a little over 7,000 products in the catalog and have been runni
ng for almost 5 years. I have been successful in getting the extension to work but only by using a local catalog.xml file that I was able to download with Sitebuilder 2. Sitebuilder could not load the file into that editor but I did get a good copy of the
.xml file.

It is still a somewhat clumsy interface but we will see. So far as I understand all of the Yahoo Store devlopers are at a loss with the new revant of the store systems. The extension shows promise but only about an alpha level product so far.

You will find the extension here:

You may want to look at the Sitebuilder 2 as well:

Thanks again, very much,

Hi Ron,

Thank you for the info. I wish I'd known that the new Merchant Solutions was
so buggy before signing on to do this! Their support is terrible for the
extension - the phone helpdesk has nothing about it in their database, and
email support is very unresponsive. Practically no online help either -
though the sales pitch documentation mentions the DW interface in several
places!

Thanks again,

Joanna

Hi Joanna,

I got your email, thanks. I'll take a look later today. I can't promise I'll
be able to help, but I'll take a look. Already from the screenshots I know
they've built a type of extension I'm not yet familiar with writing so based
on that I wouldn't be too hopeful.

I'll email you off list with my conclusion by tomorrow.

Hi Angela,

I've managed to get it running on another machine with Win XP Pro - I'm
wondering if it's a confict with my Win 98SE OS - the documentation from
Yahoo says it's compatible with that OS, but so far not for me. But at
least I know it's something related to my machine that's causing the error,
and the extension is workable under the right circumstances.

For now, I'll have to develop on the other machine, which is a LOT better
than nothing - but I'd love to make it work on my development machine
without having to change OS.

Thank you so much for your help and advice,

Joanna

Hi, Angela

I found this thread trying to solve similar issues with
the Yahoo Merchant Solutions extension for Dreamweaver.

I was trying to use my Mac for development of a site linked
to a Yahoo Store, and was told by Yahoo tech support that
the extension isn't supported for macs. (I received a Javascript
error similar to yours)

So, as painful as it was I switched to PC running Windows 2000,
and Dreamweaver MX with the extension. This setup is on their
list. I've had not much more luck. Having read some other
forums I'm starting to think that the extension is a piece of junk.

Seems like a shot in the dark but if you happen to go back and read
this old thread I'd love to hear any info you've gathered on this
subject.

Thanks,
Jason

I?m struggling over a month to make the Dreamweaver MX work with Yahoo Merchant
Solutions extension. The problem is that the Yahoo setup site in the MX tools
doesn?t setup new sites. I finally upgraded to MX 2004 and it works! But I
don?t want to purchase the MX 2004; Yahoo and MX claim that MX works with the
extension. Any idea?
