Nav bars in templates

| How can you use DW navigation bars inside a template? I want to have a standard
template for my site layout and use a naviagation bar that shows a down image
for the page you are on.
If I make the naviagtion bar an editable region, then try to edit this region
in a file assocated with this template, I get an error message saying that the
changes will be discarded.

| This question is discussed in depth in Chapter 3 of Dreamweaver MX 2004
Magic - three different methods are described. You can probably find a copy
at your local Borders/B&N/whatever. You will discover many magic things in
there.

| if you search the groups.google.com archive, there's lots of ways given.
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=d...te&ie=ISO-8859-
1&hl=en
one method that's fairly easy-
make the navbar as normal- don't set any "initial down state" checkboxes.
Put the navbar in a Locked area of the template.
then on the individual pages, find or insert an image in an Editable area of
the page.
(you could put a 1x1 gif someplace like a corner, and use it for this
purpose on each page)
Apply a swap image behavior to that image, triggered onLoad, that swaps in
the downstate image for the particular nav button you want down on that
page. A disjoint rollover, onLoad.
That will show the initial down state. It won't remove the link, and the
other state will return if they mouseover the button. But it's quick to do
to show the initial downstate.
This is the same method used in the "initial down state" checkbox of the MM
navbars- Except this way the swap image behavior onLoad is applied to a
different image that's in an editable area, instead of to the navbar image.
