Author Can't get a link to stop highlighting "purple".

Why does the word "Races" (from the code below) appear purple on my web site
instead of blue? I have cleaned out my cache and history repeatedly, but it
still appears "purple" for some reason (as if clicked on). When I use
www.spiderproxy.com to view my website remotely, it appears "blue" (as it
should appear). So what is Dreamweaver doing to cause this *one word* to always
appear "purple" on my computer? I have even tried deleting the word and link,
recreating it them again, and uploading the page through Dreamweaver, but still
no luck. Purple.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Without seeing the entire actual page, it's impossible to speculate, but you
DO know that clearing your cache and clearing your history are two different
things, right?

By default, browsers set Links to be Blue and Visited Links to Purple, it can
be that simple, you have clicked the link before, thus it is visited, and
turned Purple.
Try holding down the ALT key and selecting Refresh in Internet Explorer, this
forces the page to load fresh.

Gary[/q]Howdy.

To answer some questions, I have cleared everything (history, cache,
everything, regardless of how redundant that might be), and have *not* clicked
on this link that keeps highlighting "purple".

Here is the offending link:

[L=http://www.wakinglands.com/htm_files/the_main_page.htm]http://www.wakinglands
..com/htm_files/the_main_page.htm[/L]

To find what I am talking about, scroll down the daily news items to "Prestige
Class Free-for-All" dated "13 February 2004". The link to "Races" is the one
that appears Purple to me no matter what I do (including deleting it
completely, retyping the word, re-linking it, and re-uploading it through
Dreamweaver.

Please do not tell me that it appears "blue" to you. I know that it does. The
problem is that Dreamweaver is causing it to appear "purple" on my computer for
some unknown reason.

Again, any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

It is behaving as expected.

After clicking the two links in that news blurb, then coming back to that
page, the links are "visited". As are two more links to the same pages just
above that blurb.

clear History in my browser, reload page, they are all blue.

what several of us did is confirm that there is nothing in the page code or
css causing this.

Dreamweaver did nothing or is doing nothing to affect what is shown as
visited when you view the page in your browser.

That is all to do with your browser, and whatever
add-ons/plugins/adware/malware/hijackers or other things may have attached
or installed themselves into Internet Explorer ( I am assuming windows/IE).

http://formdude.com/untitled0.html

this page is the wording, and the top set of links are real ones to your
pages, the last paragraph they are broken links.

*Do the any of the links appear visited?
*How about the last paragraph?

Suggest on general principles to install Adaware and Spybot and scan your
machine for problems.

I don't know if your asking how to change the active/viewed link color or what,
but if so......

In the <BODY> tag.........ALINK="#_____" for active link
and........VLINK="#_____" for viewed link.

Hope that helps,
Mark

After clearing my history, the Races link that is connected to my page still
appears visited.
The last paragraph (repeating the Races sentence but not linked to my web
site) *does not* appear linked.

I scanned my computer for spywear last night using Ad-aware. It found 3
"trackers" which I deleted. After rebooting and clearing all my histories
again, the Races link on my web site still looked appeared visited.

What does tell you? Please, any insight would be appreciated. Thanks again for
your time.

That the problem is isolated to your machine-
That the problem is not that particular word combination, but that IE sees
that particular url as being visited (reason I made a link with the same
test as the other, but broken. Some adware will hijack links and text based
on the words used)

All i can suggest is upgrade or "repair" internet explorer-
And/Or- try login as a different user, if multiuser system, and see if it's
just one user or all users on that machine.

Could play in ie-->Tools-->Internet options
And change the settings or location for the storage of the cache and history
files

Other than that- if machine passes adaware and spybot and there's no other
indications of a problem, i don't think it's a problem to spend a lot of
time on. It's probably a read-only history file or similar that isn't being
totally erased when you clear history maybe.
