Being a Mac person, I don't know for sure.
But since both are developed by MS, I believe that IE and FrontPage are
designed to interact in a way that you can't apply to DW.

Yes you can. I forget the way, however, because once I did it, I didn't
need to remember how! 8)

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Programs. If the dropdown for HTML Editor
shows Dreamweaver, select it.
If it doesn't, it gets more complicated, but mainly involves setting the
file association for HTML extension files for Dreamweaver to be the Editor.

As a general approach then, if you have to do that, and depending on your
OS, in Windows Explorer, Folder Options, File Types, highlight HTML
Document, Click Advanced, if Edit with Dreamweaver is not on list, create it
by clicking New, then in Action type Edit with Dreamweaver MX 2004 ,
and then in Application to be Used, enter "C:\Program
Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Dreamweaver.exe" %1 or the
equivalent location by browsing to it. That should then allow you to see
the option in paragraph one above.

And if it doesn't work right the first time, welcome to the club! It's
sometimes painful, and commonly repressed from memory once successfully
done! If it still doesn't work, there are several formal explanations that
should come up in a Google search. Or read

I once did it as well. However, you can only use that button to edit files
opened through the local file system. I doesn't work on remote files, or
files previewed through a local server. That effectively eliminates any
benefit it might have for me, so I've never bothered with it.

Actually, I use it to quickly look at web pages all the time. But if I get
serious about the dissection, I use FILE | Save As > Web Page Complete.

With *thinks* .... TweakUI? you can change the "View Source" program

I experimented with this and set it from Notepad to Dreamweaver. However upon
clicking on the menu item IE paused whilst it waited for DW to load, and then
DW has some "issues" with opening it, then finally opened the file, albiet in
Design View!

But my IE toolbar is very minamalist, all its got is: Back, Forward, Stop,
Refresh, Search (modded to search Google), Favs, and History. The rest are just
a bunch of uber-n00b-d00d "tools" or "features" that even Mozilla had 3 years
ago

Really? When I had it set up, the button was always disabled for any
page other than a local page. I'm sure you know, but for others who may
be reading this, the File->Save As modifies the code of the page
significantly.

Gary:

Yeah - FILE | Save As really wrecks it.

And the edit with works fine for me. I dunno why.

It MSifies it. ;-)

I just assumed it was supposed to be that way. Perhaps I'll revisit it one
day.
