Author Dreamweaver MX crashes when scrollwheel is used

Situation: Dreamweaver MX (ie: 6.x) on MacOS 10.3.2 and a Microsoft optical
scrollwheel mouse without the Microsoft driver (less Microsoft = better) on a
677Mhz TiBook with 1GB RAM and tons of free disk space.
Activity: trying to use the scrollwheel to scroll down an open Dreamweaver
document.
Result: Dreamweaver crashes 4 times out of 5.

Using the scrollwheel does not crash any other application on our Mac.

Suggestions?
