Author Can he upload a file to a simple HTML site?
Brian

I was asked by my client if it was possible for him to uploaded files only
to this 'News' page of his site http://www.fergusjohnston.com/news.htm. I
presume that this is not possible unless he has direct FTP access (from me)
to the whole site. Am I correct? Is the only safe answer database driven to
achieve this?

Thanks for any advice.

Regards

Brian

It is possible but you would need to use some server-side scripting to
*pull* the file up from your client's local hard drive.

What server models does your host support?

What server models does your host support? Hi Murray I'm really not sure.
Where would I find this out. I'm not sure that I would be getting into an
area that will cause me grief later on!
Thanks for you reply

Ask your host. Are they Windows or *nix servers?

And what version of DW are you using?

It appears to be Apache/PHP.

Then look for a file upload script for PHP, I guess.

I'd suggest visiting http://hotscripts.com
look in the PHP scripts section, then the category that fits best with what
you and the client want. There's going to be something there very close to
what you need.

This one costs $79, but it has a lot of features and works great (at least I
can attest that the ASP version works great, so I assume the PHP is equally
well written): http://www.dmxzone.com/showDetail.a...d=3&NewsId=4509

You can probably finder cheaper and even free scripts, but this one is
written as a DMX extension and will have the job done for you very quickly.
So I guess it depends on your time constraints and how much you wish to dive
into the underlying code.
