Web Forum-originating URLs
|
|

| It appears that any URLs marked as such by someone in the web forum
always have their last letter truncated.
E.g., http://www.mydomain.co, http://www.mydomain.com/test.ht etc.
This makes them unclickable. Is there any way around this particular
bug? I am frankly tired of clicking on a link and getting a 404. It must
have happened 20 times today. I will no longer look at pages whose URL
has been mangled by the appalling web-based forum, about which much
derision has been expressed and much more is merited. No great loss in
my case, but if too many start to feel this way the news group will
become a lot less useful for everyone.
So if you are posting from there (and by some miracle or conjunction of
the planets ever see this message), using the web forum tools to encode
a URL DOES NOT WORK.
IT DOES NOT WORK.
IT DOES NOT WORK.
If you want people to look at your page to help you with a problem,
either access this group via a news reader or DON'T use the formatting
the web forum offers to mark a URL. Did I mention that IT DOES NOT WORK?
Also be aware that some lines of your message will also have the last
characters lopped off. This makes posting examples of code a bit dicey
since people will waste time pointing out syntax errors that your code
doesn't have.
I know Macromedia feels it serves their business interests to keep
throwing resources at it to try to make it functional. But because of
the topology of the web-based forum vis-a-vis the news group, those
using the web interface are having a very poor experience, I suspect,
and always will even if the current crop of bugs is fixed. I don't think
the web forum is what anyone would consider a business asset. Just kill
it. Please.
On the other hand, perhaps the disastrous downturn the web forum took a
few weeks ago is actually a secret plot fomented by a cabal within
Macromedia to sabotage the thing. If so, I applaud your efforts, but why
don't you just pull the plug on the thing?

Personally, I stopped replying to threads I knew originated from the web
based forum quite awhile ago. Too frustrating explaining something and then
the poster reposts a day later griping that no one ever replies to their
requests for help.

| Maybe the posting guidelines could include a short tutorial explaining to
people how to set up a newsreader?
