| Hi Guys,
I give up, I've buggered about with the code till I've all but wrecked the
page but I just can't get rid of the horizontal scroll bar on page
http://www.eugene.stevenson.btinter....uk/services.ht
That is when viewed @ 800x600. My target audience will use 1024x768 or above
but there is still that guy who wont get rid of his 14" monitor to consider. All
other pages look OK but this page still insists on throwing up the hoz scroll
bar
BTW...I know it's nowhere near finished but any other feed back would be
greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Gene

Is that their screen resolution or browser viewport size? Remember...screen
resolution doesn't have much to do with the size of a person's browser's
view port.

consider.
That and everyone that doesn't browse with their browser maximized, or uses
their bookmarks pane, or has multiple windows open side by side or...
;o)
Anyways...looking at your site, my guess is that nested table set at 760
pixels...have you reduced that to see if that fixes the page for you?

I wouldn't use flash for all of your navigation.

| Yeah using flash for your navigation is a bad idea. That is horrible for
accessibility speaking. If you want to remove the horizontal scrollbar you can
add this to the head section of your page:
<style type="text/css">
html { overflow-x:hidden; }
</style>
But I'm not so sure if its valid CSS or not. Speaking of CSS I could easily
give you rollover CSS buttons instead of all that inaccessible flash.

| Huge thanks to both for your promp replies,
Esp Daryl, that fixed it.
Reg Flash, I thought I'd read somewhere that if I used the Flash buttons, from
the DW "insert interactive image" menu, for my navigation the user wouldn't
have to downloaded the assumed ubiquitous Flash player to see them (back to
that bloke with the 14" monitor then).
As for CSS, I understand it stands for Cascading Style Sheets, that is all I
know! all
If I'm wrong about the Flash buttons I'll put some Rollovers together in
Photoshop (I earn my living from CAD and Photoshop not HTML...btw please no
sarky comments about there being no use of of masks when optimising my main
images, this was suposed to be a quick build).
Anyway, thanks to all concerned for your help and support,
Cheers,
Gene Stevo.

A person needs the flash player to see any flash.
The biggest problem with flash buttons is that they are inaccessible, and,
typically, just not needed. If all you are after is a rollover effect, use
javascript and swap images, or, even better, use CSS to do it.
A good tutorial on this (and many other like-issues) is a list apart:

You're wrong about the Flash buttons. The user needs the Flash player to
even see them. Users without the Flash player, and that includes search
engines, cannot navigate the site.

| Again, MANY THANKS, to Darrel, I'v bookmarked the page and will look closer
when I've finished my ? bottle of Grouse, (or when I'm fit), and I thought
Flash buttons would be so quick! Thanks also to Gary. You've both been a
great help (to think I only wanted to get rid of a f***ing scroll bar,
(NB...being a perfectionist is just anouther way of saying intolerant).
BTW...don't I get any points for also including text links at page bottoms?
Thank you so much for taking the time to offer help,
Yours,
Gene Stevo.
