page check please - especially macs & IE5

| Need a page check please. Not sure how this renders on a Mac (don't have
access to one).
It appears to work as expected in IE6, NS7 and Moz 1.7 Hopefully doesn't
fall apart on a Mac :)
http://www.wollongong-city.com/swift/
Was having problems with the dropdown menus moving dramatically on resizing
the window, but I think I've fixed that... ??
If anyone spots any problems on the other browers, I'd also like to know.
Thanks to anyone who has the time. :)

| Looks fine here (Mac OS X.3/IE5.) The menus are properly positioned and
remain so when I change the size of the window. I would suggest more
contrast in the colors you are using to highlight in the drop-downs.
Probably OK on a PC but not enough contrast on a Macintosh.

I checked on Mac IE5.2. Moz 1.4, Safari and Opera 6.
A couple of minor issues.
1 The sub menus dont disappear, or (randomly) disappear when I mouse out
of the bottom of them. They are ok if I go out either side.
2 The position of the sub menus are centred, not ranged left, under the
main triger menu when I resize the browser window narrower than the main
table.
3 In Opera the css is not being recoginised on the drop menus.

Youre being clever :)
What you need to do is enclose your main table in the wrapper <div> as
well and then work out the position of the menus from the left.
The first one, dropdown3 should be 255px not 240px. The second one,
dropdown4 should be 375px not 361px. Alter the shim gif height in your
closer layer to 150px, that will take care of the closing issue when
mousing out of the bottom on the sub-menus.
Not sure at the moment why Opera isnt recognising the font styling.

I isolated it to the dropdown <divs> being in the wrapper <div>. When I
deleted the warpper <div> from the page and just left the ap <divs>
Opera recognised the css font style in the ap <divs>
Ive not come across this one before so I dunno, Im lost at the moment.
Ive used ap <divs> inside a relatively positioned one before and I dont
recall any font problems.
Oh well its only Opera I guess, who cares.

Got there in the end, Opera doesnt like this in the <body> tag, but I
dunno why.

I took a quick look in Firefox and IE6 on a Win2k machine and all looks
and works well except for one thing. Your closer layer (or more
specifically the image in it) needs to be taller than 100 pixels. As it
is now, if you move the mouse a little too quickly, the menu never hides.

Thanks James,
Makes me feel much better now that you've checked :)
Not not enough contrast on the pc either, but wanted to get the site checked
while I was asleep :) Will fix up sometime today. Was going to use a
muted variation color of the nav buttons for the hover.

Gary,
Will take care of that today. Thanks for checking. Much appreciated.
Firefox is the newest Moz right? or have I missed something.

| Thanks Mick,
Good to know, I always worry about the Mac for some reason :-)
The contrast is being taken care of today.

That is strange isn't it? I would rather declare my font in the body -
wasn't aware that this was an issue in Opera. Is there a hack available?
May need to ask over on the css forum.
Thanks for taking all the trouble Osgood - really appreciated.

I had it like that originally, but the menus kept moving and NS7 wouldn't
play nice either.
I think as long as it works I will keep it as is. Unless of course you
think it is causing some sort of issue?

Will do - thanks.

Firefox is the new name for Phoenix -> Firebird -> Firefox, which is the
browser component only, of Mozilla.

The gradient fill on the left side of the design does not match up with
the gradient fill in the background. The gradient also has a lot of
banding. Run a noise filter over it in Photoshop.
Interesting color scheme. Makes me want ice cream.
IE6 and FireFox 0.8, Windows 2k.

Its good and a cool way to implement drop down menus incorporation with
a fluid web page. No need for snap anymore. Ive been experimenting with
this technique since Joe made his tutorial avaiable some months back.

Theres no real problem apart from if I narrow the browser window below
the width of the main table. Then the drop downs dont appear 'exactly'
where you want them, ranged left with the actually trigger button. They
appear centered under it, which is not a problem unless you are picky
like me :)
Infact, thinking about it you shouldnt really need to wrap the table in
the <div> as well to get the drop downs to position correctly. I just
did it without really thinking, it is legitimate and seemed to sort out
the menu positioning problem.
Which leaves the question, why are the submenus centering themselves
under the trigger images when the browser window is narrowed. They are
ap <divs> positioned in a relative <div> so they should retain there
exact position.

Yeah its confused me. Id like to get a difinitive answer as to why
removing that declaration would then cause the text in the sub menus to
appear corrcetly. May be some inheritance/layer issue in Opera.
I usually find a way around it though and get it to work x-browser,
which I guess is the ulitmate goal.

Would that be the same as applying a texture using FWs?

That's great (I think..) so the site met with your approval then? :-D
May actually convert it to a com. template sometime soon - I've been asked
often enough for a dropdown design ;-)

Ian.
I am pretty sure adding a bit of texture in FWs is probably the same thing.
I've read (know not where:) that adding a bit of texture does cut down on
the banding. I have added a texture actually but if I increase it any
further, then I see the texture - which I don't want.
Thanks for the advice though.
