| My page was made into a template but it still looks like things can be changed
on the later pages when you open them up. Sorry still new and need step by
step instructions if you dont mind. DId you look at my code to see if I
actually did it right or wrong. I thought about it the other day, and I don't
know if it is correct. What exactly do I need to do in the templates because
maybe I missed something. Please take a look and let me know.

| No need to be mean...I am still learning. I did start with a template but when
I open the page it still looks on my side that those objects can still be
changed. Not even familiar with this SSI and PHP that everyone is talking
about. Any help is appreciated. Can you take a look at my site coding and see
if I have done it wrong? Go to www.craftmade.com Thanks Remember you were
once in my shoes...:)

| kjackowski 2004-11-18, 7:15 pm |
| Ok now that I am thinking about it . On my working files in Dreamweaver the
elements on my end will be editable correct but they should only be editable on
my homepage and my first product file. The rest of the html files shouldn't
let me be able to change anything, correct? Just one of those all of a sudden
panic moments of 'did I do that correctly'. I don't want to get way in to the
development of this and have done this completely wrong.

| It would be best if your site was dynamic, meaning using a server-side
scripting language. Has this site gone live yet? You need to find out from
your hosting company what server-side scripting languages they support.
Databasing your stuff would also be a good idea. When you contact your hosting
company, find out what database's they support/allow. You can email me if you
have any other questions. I'll be glad to help/advise you. I do remember what
it was like when I was in your shoes. Hang in there. It does get better!
| |
| kjackowski 2004-11-18, 7:15 pm |
| The complete site is not live yet. We are putting it up piece by piece, not my
idea but it is what my superiors want. Only the home page and one other page
has been changed. I will ask about the server-side scripting language. Thanks
so much,

| Here is the code from my product template page. You can also view the code
from the actuall web site to see the actual home page code as well. THe code

| I found out currentlty the site is not running with a certain script language.
It mainly used PDF's if that makes any difference. My pages I am creating have
javascript in them though. For what we are doing my IT didn't really think it
would be necessary to go dynamic but we can support whatever script is useful.
I just want to see if the changes will carry over through out the site. Can
some one look at my test site and see by the code if this will
work...http://www.craftmade.com/test2 If not I need to change this now.
Templates were used but not for sure if everything was done correct. Always
learning...trail and error I guess.

The site is not running with a certain script language?

What are you wanting to work?

Not judging by the page at the link you posted -

| This page is not the child of a Dreamweaver template.
Furthermore, it uses the FW pop-up menus, which is a big mistake all on its
own.
So - what is your question then?

That page was not made from a template. Additionally, you're using the MM
built-in menus and changes to those would not be propagated to template
based pages. That menu is definitely NOT template friendly.

| Well I didn't start from a template. I built it from ground up. I made my
first product page and made that a template and will make the following pages
from that template. I have had comments that my menus are very javascript
heavy and I should use css and link it up externally or make the javascript an
external file and link to it? How do I do this? Is it fairly easy and quick? I
have dabbled lightly with CSS but I am really running low on time and keep
getting set back. one good thing this is a great learning experience, but any
help to ease the pain would be appreciated.

| Go to Project VII (www.projectseven.com) and follow one of their navigation
menu tutorials. They'll be able to show you how to make much lighter,
accessible menus.

| I know but my product page was created then made into a template that will be
used for the rest of the site. I need to make sure that on the rest of the
pages the changes will flow thruough. but I need to build each page straight
from the original template correct for it to flow correctly. Then I really
only have two pages that I may have to make actual changes to. I know about
everyones feelings on different ways of pop up menus. Does it take a long time
to convert them to a different type of pop up menu? Keep in mind I am still
learning and doing things on the fly.
