Corel's default behaviour with objects copied to the clipboard is
annoying! I create an object save the file, copy the object to use in
another open CorelDraw file and close the first file only to be greeted
with the dreadful "Leave Data on Clipboard for other application"
message. Why does Draw do this? It would be great if it did this when
actually closing Draw but while Draw is still open - do me a favour! The
message isn't even accurate, if I click "no" it should leave the data on
the clipboard for itself! Having to remember not to click no every time.
Grumble!

PS Arh, that's better!

If data is left on the clipboard, and the data is huge, the performance of
your computer my decrease. If you copied the data, pasted it in the other
document, there is a big possibility that you don't need it in the clipboard
anymore. Why then should you drag its weight along after closing the first
document?
I find this message useful because it prevents -at times- memory resources
from clogging. Consider it as an option that Draw gives you to have a
quicker performance.

Hi, I disagree. I know if I have copied something onto the clipboard. I
only copy something when I want to paste it elsewhere. As it stands
Corel pops up the message about 2 seconds after I've just copied the
object. This message interferes with my workflow (Copy - Close - Paste
is faster than Copy - select Target Document - Paste - Select Source -
Close). The message should only appear when Corel is closed for good.
I'd have no problem with it then. There could be a toolbar button or
shortcut command to clear the contents of the clipboard - that would be
more useful. For me this message is simply annoying.

This was put in a while back to avoid some crashes that were caused by the
clipboard - I know, because I reported them. As I recall, if you closed a
document with the old clipboard behavior, Draw would crash when reopening
the document or something like that. The clipboard is attached to the
document, not the application, for whatever reason, and the dialog is needed
when closing the document after doing a copy/cut function. Perhaps there
should be a checkbox in the dialog to always answer "yes" and have it never
appear again.
Maybe in v13? As it is now, I don't even notice the clipboard dialog, I just
always hit yes and I'm on my way.

What would be nice it to see more options for the Clipboard as per Alex's
Macro.
PDF, SWF AI could all be copied to the clipboard (as required).
So obviously a needed option and so easy to implement.

Thanks for the explanation. Always answer "Yes" sounds good to me.
Having said this, Word 97 has no problem with only giving the message
when Word is finally closed. The message still seems counter-intuitive.
Hopefully Corel will come up with something better.

The data I keep in Word files (all text) is MUCH smaller than the data I
keep in Draw files. You're comparing two radically different programs.

Illy behaves the same way as Word.

I agree. This is a left-over from the time of systems much less powerful than
today's, slower, with much less memory, cache, hard drives, etc. MAYBE it could
appear when closing the application, but I personally don't even like it there!
With multi-level clipboards, and the need to copy and paste between
applications, it's simply an anachronism.

Foster I hope you know that not only Word behaves that way. Censor do not
like some names but there plenty of other graphic programs which purge the
clipboard either when you ask for it or when you exit the program.

Guess what - just found that Photo Paint behaves properly. It only
offers to clear the clipboard when it closes for good. If Photo paint
can do this then CorelDraw should as well. Hope this is sorted in Corel
13 or even better in Corel 12 SP2!

The WordPerfect Office Suite programs also offer to clear the clipboard.
Seems Corel must have outsourced Draw to a different Indian company....
