Author Changing Corel Draw Print Defaults permanently -how
Ken

I like to have a number of defaults set different than the original Corel
Draw Defaults unfortunately every time Corel 12 is closed it copies the
original defaults back.

I would like to rename the defaults to CorelDRAW Defaults-old and save a new
set, where is that hidden backup copy that is preventing this?

Thanks,

Ken

Go a little farther Tools > Options > Global > Printing

And at the top one can save a different print settings file as a default.
Right above print current page which I always also use as a default. Okay so
I am blind and missed it before, thanks for pointing me in the correct
direction :)

Actually this is not doing it for me either. While it does save the name
cropmarks2 that I created the crop marks are not showing.

Oh well upgrade to Corel 9

I was able to try this at home and it did work with 12 .0.0.536

I had also tried pressing F8 and resetting defaults at work which did not
work.

The only difference, at home I have a non postscript printer as default,
then I switched to postscript as a default though its only print to file and
was able to add autoincrease flatness and autoincrease fountainsteps. I
don't add optimize fountain fills as at least with Corel 9 it actually made
them worse with a EFI Fiery RIP equipped printer. I don't know if others are
having the problem of setting the Corel 12 print defaults set permanently or
not, though I think they are.

After resetting workspace with the F8 on opening.

I am going to set my default printer at work to a non postscript version
and try creating an alternate called cropmarks and autoincrease flatness and
fountainsteps, then if the crop marks holds will change to postscript
printer and add the flatness and fountainsteps portion.

If the above doesn't work I will probably try re-doing the install.

Any one else having problems to change the defaults with a postscript
printer?

With your recent posts, your problem became more understandable. Do not have
a PS printer here in my office but set up defaults with numerous variations
printing to non-postscript, file and PDF. Have not encountered the problem
you described. all the settings were repeatable by selecting them from the
list and setting as default. Perhaps it is specific to the install you have
at work. :(

Have the same problem here, Ken. The changes sometimes last for a while,
then one day they disappear (and print color bitmaps as grayscale catches me
out again). I finally made all my defaults and saved it to another name
(e.g. not over the defaults like I wished to). Then, every time I print I
select that from the dropdown and voila! But it still doesn't make sense
that you have to do this... I wonder if there is a folder with this stuff
under windows documents and settings and under program files/corel... ?

The only time I can imagine that happening is if your default printer is a
grayscale printer. You might get around it if outside of Coreldraw you set
your default printer as a color printer

I finally made all my defaults and saved it to another name

I assume you mean the new name you made in place of defaults as defaults
reverts back every time you exit Corel. I even tried doing a save as (then
right clicking on defaults to make read only - DONT do it as then Corel
doesn't start and you have to find the file to take that setting off)

After saving new file name Go to Tools > Options > Global > Printing

And at the top one can save a different print settings file as a default.
Right above print current page only, however I have tried setting this to my
Crop Marks file and it then never saved the settings at work. Yet at home it
did. I am going to try setting a non Postscript printer as default at work
to see if that makes a difference.

It may be one has to make a Registry adjustment - that'll be next.

You may benefit as I do by setting up your printer twice or more One time as
a color printer and a 2nd as a black and white printer.

I think you may be right - I notice crop marks settings at home have gone
now. I am guessing when I go to non postscript printer Corel can not handle
the fact a page of settings is no longer there and reverts everything to
original. However this was not a problem with Corel 9.
