I just imported an object that I used a quick mask on in photoshop to Illustrator, and it has a white background around it! I'm trying to get it off but I don't know how. any ideas?

A Quick mask is simply a selection, which, if you did not save it, it lost when the document is closed or when you make another selection. By itself, a selection does nothing to the image.

If you saved the mask though Select>Save Selection menu or through the Channels palette, you can load the selection and make an Layer Mask from it through the Layers palette.
(Note: you cannot apply a layer mask to Background layer, you need to convert it to a "normal" layer.)
