hi everyone,
i need to make a simple text box for a pie chart. i would like to
join a rounded rectangle and a triangle so that the bottom of the
triangle is missing and the triangle flows nicely into the rectangle.

can anyone help me? i'm lost here, never used illustrator before.

you just need to draw the two shapes you need to use, with them
overlapping at the suitable part. (in your case, the bottom of the
triangle and the top of the rectangle) highlight them both together,
and click Add to Shape Area, under Shape Mode, in the Pathfinder
Pallet.
