Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same issue...

You might try a complete manual uninstall per the following document, then do a clean install.

<http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331470.html>

Caution: The procedure calls for editing of the Windows registry. If you muck it up, you might end up with an unbootable computer.

crys,

When I first installed Illustrator CS2, the program was working fine.
But one day, about a week or so later, the program would start up, but
then would quit unexpectedly.

Before you follow the advice from Harron, delete your Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings folder; search for hidden files and folders. If strange things happen all of a sudden, delete the folder or at least the AIPrefs (see FAQ #2) instead of taking it out on
Illy: she is innocent. Windows is to blame.

Well, yes, trashing prefs is always worth a try. But Crys94 got to a point where...

...now I can't even uninstall/install the program.

In my experience, this is not an AIPrefs problem.

this happened to me once before and now again, tonight. Daunted by the 100+ steps required to manually uninstall Illustrator [and still risk system stability], i installed Windows Installer Cleanup Utility 1.0 [http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure
-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml ]. Once again, it worked like a charm. I uninstalled AI CS2, then reinstalled from CD. No issues so far; i can finally open docs and KEEP them open. good luck....
