Live paint groups keep developing gaps when resizing objects

When dragging & adjusting the size of an object with many live paint groups, gaps keep developing causing the colored fill to drop out. I then have to select the "live paint" groups (object or symbol), then "gap options", enable "gap detector", select "cl
ose gap with paths" and re-apply colored fill.

Isn't there a way to freeze or lock all the closed paths in an group so they remain closed? i'm constantly developing new gaps as I resize and move objects around.
