Illustrator question...

| I am new to using Illustrator, and I am having trouble with
getting Illustrator to "live trace" an old .GIF format Logo (low
resolution) and come out clean. With other images it seems to
do very well, but for some reason the jaggies in this .gif cause
the trace function to flip out.
It keeps "artistically" doing the trace. Straight lines get
curved, etc. It's a very simple logo, see here:

I've tried just about every combination of trace options I can
think of. There must be a better way. Any help much
appreciated.

| It's simple enough to easily recreate on your own. Place the graphic, draw
some properly dimensioned diamond shapes, group, order and it's done. I
wouldn't use live trace for such a straight forward logo.
My two cents...

I understand, but....

I'm trying to use it to learn more about the trace function. I
saw several demos on the web of how great it is for the this
sort of thing, so I try it, and can not get anything like the
same results I see others getting. I'm trying to use it to
learn what I am doing wrong.

My experience with using live trace depends on the dpi.
With lower res images I will use live trace and adjust the
nodes accordingly
Hope this helps

Thank you for responding. I have not figured out yet what
"adjust the nodes" means yet. I'm going to have to get into the
books a bit. Knowing how to fly photoshop doesn't give me as
much airspeed as I thought it would.
However, based upon your dpi comments, I was able to take the
original image and jack with it in photoshop to up the dpi and
clean it up, then I went back and retested the trace function on
that file, and it worked as expected (better than I hoped
actually). So, as you say, dpi is important.
