Author Flare tool and transparency flattening

I have used the flare tool on a poster and set it to about 40% transparency. My printer has rejected the file because he says he needs flattened transparency. When I flatten the transparency at the high resolution setting when creating a pdf, the lines in
the flare tool have dashed strokes around them. Anyone know what I can do in this situation?
