| Hi there, I'm running Illy CS2 and I wondered if any of you guys could tell me how to sort the following...
I have a coloured object, I know the cmyk values of it, but how do I find the nearest pantone match? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but please help me before I tear the last of my hair out!!!

| Rainbowchaser,
Normally you would choose a Pantone (and often live with the nearest CMYK equivalent).
In Photoshop you can open the Color Picker, insert the CMYK values, and tick Custom to see the closest match. I do not know whether a similar feature has been built into Illy CS2; you may wish to fine tune it, using 4. below.
You can use a Pantone swatch book (if you have one), especially if you know the Pantones well.
Otherwise, you may:
1. Window>Swatch Libraries>Pantone C (or other as appropriate),
2. With the right arrow flyout choose Large Thumbnail View,
3. Place the library close to the colour and scroll through to nearest match(es),
4. create a filled rectangle, drop the candidates into it, and read the CMYK values.

| The reason I need to do it bkinda backwards is that someone has emailed me a design without colour matching it and I need to convert it to Pantone references for screen printing. I Cant find the elusive custom button in CS2, but I have found a way to do i
t...
In photoshop, open the Pantone palette from the flyout button on the Swatches window, then click the object in question, click on the colour square in the icon menu on the left, then press 'colour libraries' and your closest pantone will show up.
Hopefully this might save someone getting as stressed as I've been!
Thanks for your help

| You don't need to use a Pantone colour for screen printing. If you have a colour sample, you can use that.
