Author Why does Illustrator CS2 re-name my files

Every time a save a file for the first time in Illustrator CS2 it re-names the file. For example: If I save a file as carwindow.AI and then close the file, when I try to open it back up an error comes up stating that it is not the right kind of file. Inst
ead Illustrator creates a new version that would be named something like CARW~1.AI. Why is this - and more importantly how can I get it to STOP?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Scott,

You are saving to a network drive, are you not?

It was known bug which was fixed by one of the updates.

(Although you are advised to save locally and then copy across to the
network)
