Author Open file dialogue issue

When I try to open a file or place a file, the mouse cursor automatically moves instantly to the top of the screen and the dialogue either doesn't open, or it opens somewhere outside of the bounds of the screen. Either way, I'm left unable to use Illustra
tor. I'm running a decent cpu with two monitors. I've tried changing to just one monitor setup, changing the screen sizes of one or both monitors, restarting multiple times, deleting the "doc and settings\user\app data\adobe\illustrator cs2 settings" file
..
I've been using this program on this computer for a few months with no problems and hadn't done anything unusual to the program..
Anyone know what's going on? Any suggestions?

I am having the exact same issue. Called Adobe tech support and they said to try the forums or pay $39 for the fix. An issue that makes the program unusable should be covered.

Dorian/Tom:

It's an issue directly related to the dual monitor setup. One way around it, is to call up the dialog, then hitting Alt-Spacebar, click on "Move" in the little dialog box at top left of the screen, then use the arrow keys to move the dialog box into view.
..

Illustrator has some trouble with dual monitors. Whenever I am planning to use my laptop without my second monitor, I have to open and move all the dialog boxes to my laptop screen before unplugging the second screen. Some dialog boxes can be moved with t
he trick above, some cannot (like the Effect>Transform dialog).

WOW! That is excellent! Thank you Bert!
Can't get away from the dual monitor setup, so at least now we know how
to fix that problem when it happens,
thanks again,
