Author incorrect page size of PDF output

I am running Illustrator CS on Windows XP.

When I save a .ai file as a PDF, the PDF opens and the text is displayed on a 194.44 x 194.44 inch page size.

I have checked the Document Setup in Illustrator and it shows that "letter" is selected with a width of 8.5 and length of 11.

I am not sure what is wrong. Please help.

If the entire 194.44 inches was being displayed, the text on an 8.5x11 would barely be visible.

What app are you viewing the PDF in and how are you determining the size of the page?

Exactly. The text is minuscule.

I am using Adobe Reader to view the PDF and if I go to File> Document Properties, at the bottom of the dialog box is and "Advanced" section where "Page Size:" appears. It is there that it tells me that I am viewing a 194.44 x 194.44 inch page.

Erica,

If you:

1. Search for the hidden Adobe CS Settings folder,
2. Open the aiprefs file with Notepad or Wordpad,
3. Search (Ctrl+F) for artboard,

which values of height and width do you see?

H and W should be about 792 and 612 for Letter size, and they would be 14000 for the size you mention.

I totally recreated the file and it now converts to PDF properly.

The only think I can think might have cause my problems is that I may have set crop marks...

Would this have caused this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Erica,

have set crop marks...

Crop Marks do not show as a rectangle, but maybe it was just a rectangle.

PDFs are made to fit the Artboard in 10 and 12/CS2 so Crop Marks and artwork outside have no consequences, but as far as I remember it was different in 11/CS; I tend to forget that.
