| Hi...
I'm Italian so, please, be clement with my English.
I've Illustrator CS2 with the latest updates. Few days ago i started up Illustrator as I do pratically every day. I did finish a concept, tried to add a written with the "Text Tool" when I realized that no one of the fonts were displayed in the "Scroll Ba
r" at the top. Then I've been in the "Object Menu" and the fonts were normally loaded there. So I wrote the written with the only one font allowed, then changed it by selecting'em and choosing the font needed in the "Object Menu". So I saved my file as no
rmal .AI, but during the save process an error message appear telling me that "The file can't be saved because of an unkown error" then the software put me back to the work page. I tried to save a file which contains a text: well, Illustrator throw me bac
k to the Desktop! I checked out MS Word to see if there were a Windows problem but the fonts work great there. I already repaired, re-installed the software without success. Didn't add fonts recently or any other stuffs. The software was working very good
for months and months. So i can't go back to a certain point and remove particular files.
HELP!!!

| dabeat,
The first thing to try, with a strange issue that has come suddenly, is to close Illy and move the hidden Illustrator CS2 Settings folder to the Desktop, and then open Illy again to see. Please post back if that does not help.

| Jacob,
I'm taking a look right now at the hidden settings but I just can't find 'em. I can see hidden folders but no traces of that settings. I'm looking into the Documents & Settings, in the main Illy folder, etc... practically everywhere but without success!

| dabeat,
A search for Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings, including hidden files and folders will reveal it.
Hi Len.

| Jacob, Len..
I already found that topic and followed all of the instructions but when I get into the "Application Data" I just can find an "Adobe" folder which contains a "Photoshop Elements" folder that has nothing to share with Illy. I've all the files and folders v
iewable.
Also when I re-installed Illy I choosed to do not save my preference settings to clean better my system.

| dabeat,
Uninstalling will not remove the preferences so you are stuck with them forever unless you move or delete them.
Are you saying that a Start>Search for Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings, including hidden files, does not reveal one single folder placed somewhere on your C drive?

| Dabeat,
Are you sure you are looking in Application Data *UNDER YOUR PROFILE* -
there is an Application Data folder for each and every user-profile
within documents and settings.
| |
| dabeat@adobeforums.com 2006-12-06, 8:16 pm |
| Len,
yes I did already. Both in my "profile name" and "all users".
Jacob,
I made a big research for Documents, Files and Folders etc... enabling all of the options possible. Doggy doesn't found a thing! I also used Google Desktop without success.

| Weird, if Illustrator CS2 has been opened and closed on the system, there should be an Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings folder somewhere on the system.
Try going to Start and choose Run, then enter %appdata% in the open dialog, including the percent signs, with no spaces, then click OK. This will open the folder Windows thinks it is supposed to use for the Application Data for the user you are logged in
as. You should see an Adobe folder here, and there should be an Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings folder inside that if Illustrator has been launched under this user, and the system is working correctly.

| dabeat,
Just to make sure: did you move the folder with Illy closed (otherwise the preference settings are just reinserted when you close)?
If the preferences are not the cause, maybe you have a font issue; sometimes similar effects have occurred, as in this thread: <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?128@@.3bc13bd8>, see especially posts #29 - 33.

| Jacob,
yep, I moved'em while Illy was closed.
Thanks for the post you've suggested me but it doesn't work to solve the trouble.

| Jacob,
I've got it already installed on my PC. Anyway, do i must re-install it?
Got some news: the trouble remain but I now realize that I can save my projects in .SVG format. It's not the best format ever but for the moment is the best I can have. Also, I tried another time to save my concept in .AI file but I did receive a weird er
ror message about "Runtime Library" and immediately Illy throw me back to the desktop.

I am not sure, you may try. But first, it is worth considering another possibility:
Have you uninstalled CS those few days ago, just before the issue started? If so, you may either uninstall and reinstall CS2 if you do not want CS, or reinstall CS.

| Jacob,
I never had Illustrator CS just CS2 on my machine. I didn't touch Illy from the first time I installed'em. The issue starts one day without warning.
I'll try to reinstall'em.

I'll try to reinstall Reader then.
