Try this to correct the ODBC error.It has worked in some cases.

ODBC error solution!

James Sayre - 10:20am May 12, 2005 Pacific

I began receiving an ODBC error on startup. Recovering catalogs did not help. Nor did creating new catalogs. I spent an hour with technical support but no joy. Installing MDAC 2.8 did not help. Reinstalling PSA 2.0.1 did not help.

Kamitech suggested running this command from the command line:

regsvr32.exe C:\winnt\system32\msjtes40.dll

It fixed the problem. Since this seems to be a big problem with several forum posts, I thought I would highlight the fix in a separate post.

Thanks to Kamitech.

Help, I can't get psa2 to start up. I've tried the steps posted on starting up psa2 while holding the CTRL key and tried typing the following on the cmd line "regsvr32.exe C:\winnt\system32\msjtes40.dll".

Starting up with the CTRL key produces no difference.
With the cmd line method, I get a RegSvr32 report back that the specified module could not be found.

I have been running Home XP w/ SP2 for a while.

Thanks for any advice.

Sorry for the confusion, winnt is, if I remember correctly, a WIN2000 path. With WIN XP, use the following syntax:

regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\msjtes40.dll

John G,

Thanks for the clarification; however I'm still having trouble.

After executing the "regsvr32.exe C:\windows\system32\msjtes40.dll" command, I received a RegSvr32 report back that "DllRegisterServer in C:\windows\system32\msjtes40.dll succeeded".

But I still, even after restarting, attempting to open with the CTRL key depressed, attempting to compact and recover the catalog or even create a new catalog can't get psa2 to startup.

What to do?

Thx

Ok, try this. Go to your c:\windows directory and look at the ODBC.INI file.

It should look something like this:

[ODBC 32 bit Data Sources]
MS Access Database=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) (32 bit)
Excel Files=Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls) (32 bit)
dBASE Files=Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf) (32 bit)
[MS Access Database]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\system32\odbcjt32.dll
[Excel Files]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcjt32.dll
[dBASE Files]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcjt32.dll

It looks like that, here's a copy and paste:

[ODBC 32 bit Data Sources]
MS Access Database=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) (32 bit)
Excel Files=Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls) (32 bit)
dBASE Files=Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf) (32 bit)
[MS Access Database]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcjt32.dll
[Excel Files]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcjt32.dll
[dBASE Files]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\System32\odbcjt32.dll

Ok, I'm not sure if this will tell us anything or not, but let's try it. Execute the command c:\WINDOWS\system32\odbccp32.cpl. This will bring up the ODBC Data Source Administrator. Go to the Tracing tab, select the Start Tracing Now button, then start up
Photoshop. After you receive the error, post the %TMP%\SQL.log file. Mine looks like:

PhotoshopAlbum f0c-dd4 ENTER SQLSetConnectAttr
SQLHDBC 00000000
SQLINTEGER 104 <SQL_ATTR_TRACE>
SQLPOINTER 0x00000000
SQLINTEGER -5

JG,

This is what I read from the pasted copy of "c:\WINDOWS\system32\odbccp32.cpl" status command follows:

PhotoshopAlbum c74-c50 ENTER SQLSetConnectAttr
SQLHDBC 00000000
SQLINTEGER 104 <SQL_ATTR_TRACE>
SQLPOINTER 0x00000000
SQLINTEGER -5

Looks real similiar to yours...

I'm running out of ideas. One item I did see was to disable windows firewall and to try to start PSA again.

The way to turn off windows firewall is to execute firewall.cpl and to turn it off.

Turning off the firewall made no difference. Will my catalog be affected if I unistall and re-install PSA?
