backup to a dvd-rw problem

| I have a dvd-rw which I have wiped in Nero. I then choose File-Backup-Backup the catalog-Full Backup in PSA 2.0.1 and then my dvd burner drive. PSA then proceeds to wipe the disc, despite it being clean and then to stop after 3% saying that "An error has
occurred while writing the disc. Please insert a new disc and try again". What is going on? Does this mean that I will not be able to backup all of my photos with tags and all?

| Simon,
Have you checked to see if the hardware is listed on the supported list?
FWIW, you might consider a third party backup. Many of us have had problems
with it and have simply gone on to using a different package to backup the
relevant files.

| Actually at the moment the solution was simple. I used another disc.... Can't explain it other than that the other disc is a bit old.

| You should be aware that CD-RW discs are notoriously unreliable. I would expect their DVD flavour cousins to be at least as bad. So, they are OK for scratch copies of stuff, but not for backups or anything that really matters.

| It was just a test and not a real backup, that was why I used a rw.

| I had exactly the same problem, and also experienced some complete system crashes while backing up my catalogue.
I have cured both by:
1. Using a much slower write speed than the DVD+RW was capable of, and
2. Upgraded my DVD drive driver as recommended by the MS windows update site
Hope this helps
