| I bought a new computer and want to install Elements3. My old computer is on my home network and has the picture files and My Catalog.psa on it. Should I put the pic files and .psa on the new computer before I install Elements or drag them in after instal
l?
I know I can import files into Elements, but how does it handle getting the tags for them? I certainly don't want to retag all 7000+ pictures.

| If you can locate the pictures on the new machine so that the pathnames look the same, all you have to do is open My Catalog.PSA file with PSE 3 Organizer. It will be converted automatically and all your tagging etc. should be intact.

| Did we not use to also recommend a back up and restore to the new computer?
Not that I haven't been around for a while but...
Cheers

| I'm not sure I understand what you mean by pathnames looking the same.
The same as they did on the old computer?
Should I put the picture files and My Catalog.PSA on the new one before installing Elements?

Yes. Exactly.

installing Elements?
Doesn't matter much which you do first.

| I would do that, but the CD writer on my old comp. won't let me write to it. I can copy CD's, but not drag to them or add to them as data files, etc. I'm using Easy CD Creator and Directcd 5.1.
Can I use the network to make a backup on another computer's CD writer? The new commp. has a writer that works.

| That last post about my broken CD writer was intended for Jim's comment.

| Different people have had different experiences with that. You could also
just back it up with a third party utility and then restore it.
Cheers
