Photoshop CS2 not default editor
|
|
| akunkel@adobeforums.com 2005-05-05, 7:34 pm |
| I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 2 after uninstalling CS 1 and now I no longer have the option to edit my files in Photoshop CS2 from Photoshop Album 2. I used to be able to hit CTRL-H and now that option is gone. I can't set Photoshop to the default
editor because it tells me that Album already supports it and I can get to it from the Edit menu. Well, I can't.
Any ideas on how to the the CTRL-H menu shortcut back?
Thanks,
Andrew

| Try reinstalling PSA 2 - it should have no effect on your catalog.

| I have tried that without any luck. I still only have the option to edit the photo with the default editor which is Microsoft Paint. I have tried the re-install option and have uninstalled with removing user preferences and re-installing from scratch and
it still does not recognized PS CS2.

| Can you submit a bug report on this please? I will shortly run into this too
because my copy is "in the mail"... Ideally this will be quickly addressed.

| I have submitted a Bug report on the problem. I tried contacting support but they wanted me to pay for it even though I just installed CS2 2 days ago. I guess because it involves Photoshop Album they say it does not fall under the complimentary support pe
riod, that sucks! I do wonder what would happen if I uninstalled CS2 and reinstalled CS1 but I don't have the time to try that since I am in the middle of several projects involving CS2.

| I hear you. Let's hope this is resolved quickly. Given that it worked with
CS1... personally I am inclined to point the finger in the other
direction... :-)

| I have run into exactly the same problem. Unbelievable stupidity on the part of Adobe.
However, the workaround is "relatively" simple.
Simply make a copy of your photoshop executable in the same folder (I called it PhotoshopCS2.exe) and give Album that file rather than the "official" photoshop.exe filename. Then it works.
The only problem is you then get (once) a stupid popup telling you to consider getting Photoshop Elements for your external editing.
Sigh,
David Jameson

| Well, I placed a copy of PhotoshopCS2.exe in the Photoshop CS2 directory and still cannot use Ctrl-H. I am able to load PS CS2 as editor, but that means that I have to use the mouse every time I need to open PS CS2 and also that I manually must tell Album 2.01 that I have finished editing, once again using the mouse when I return from PS.
Is this what you meant, or have I missed something?
Can you use Ctrl-H?

| I have seen exactly the same behaviour. Strange that you cannot change a shortcut or registry string to fix this. Not only can't you use Ctrl-H, but neither are you allowed to enter PS CS2 as default editor, as it states that this isn't necessary since it
is already working with Ctrl-H!
Very annoying indeed. I have tried to reinstall both programs but no luck. Adobe PS Album is getting very slow anyway when the number of photos reach a few thousand, but it's a pity really as it is a nice program.

| I too have the exact same problem with CS2 and PS-Album...
| |
| Asaf_Yeger@adobeforums.com 2005-05-13, 7:34 pm |
| and i have noticed that changing the "photoshop" name into anything else like "photoshopcs" will work but after finishing the edit in photoshop the original picture will stay locked and you have to manually right click "finish external edit"... it works b

| I found the solution for this problem. I created following registry entry and now I can use the Photoshop CS2 from Album using Ctrl+H.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\ApplicationPath]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Adobe\\Adobe Photoshop CS2\\"
Thanks,
Deepika

| Well, I do have that entry there - never had to put it in myself - but it still doesn't work.
One difference is that I have a Norwegian version of Windows XP so the Program Files directory is called Programfiler, but the key reflects this change. It still doesn't work.

| I already have that registry entry and it does not work.

| Actually you have to create a new key "ApplicationPath" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0" and the default value data for this key should be "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\"
Hope this helps.

Deepika

| FWIW,
On this issue, I installed CS2 on a computer that did NOT have CS1 on it and
PS was incorporated as an editor. It might be that CS1 needs to be
uninstalled and then reinstalled... Of course, this is a problem if one is
upgrading but... perhaps uninstalling the upgrade and then reinstalling may
be an option because the preferences remain in place.
I'm just guessing, but if anyone would care to try it... we can create an
FAQ on it.

| Yes, you are right actually. You need to create a new key under 9.0, just like the PluginPath you need a ApplicationPath key and put in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\ in it's Standard value.
Once I did that ctlr-H worked fine again!
Thanks!

| Thank you, that did work.

| I spoke too soon. The registry key does in fact give me the CTRL-H shortcut. However, when I use it Photoshop CS2 starts but the photo is not opened. It says "Edit in progress" in Photoshop Album but it was never opened in the Photoshop application.

| Does it work if you don't use the short cut? I'll see what happens if I use
the short cut.

| No it does not work. Selecting the menu item does the same thing. It starts Photoshop CS2 but does not open the photo for editing.

| Oh brother... am I feeling embarrassed. I just realized, I'm on the wrong
computer. I'm using PSE 3 with CS2... no wonder I'm not seeing the problem.
I'll have to load PSA on this computer tomorrow to see if I can duplicate
the problem. I'm sorry about that.

| I experienced the same thing and spoke too soon. It doesn't work after all. Ctrl-H shows up in the menu, and pressing it causes PS CS2 to open, photo is marked as being edited, but never shows up in PS CS2.

| Have you folks tried over in the Photoshop area at all?
I don't have any suggestions on this end yet because I'm using PSE 3 as
well... which "unfortunately" (?)... DOES work...

| So, what is the story on this?
I just installed the PS CS2 upgrade, now, my PS Album 2.0 is fairly/somewhat useless.
1.) I installed PS2 CS2 upgrade.
2.) In uninstalled PS CS
3.) Now, when I edit a picture in PS from Album, the "editing picture" red bar never, ever goes away after I save and close the file in PS CS2. I have to close ALbum with red bars across the picture(s). My system was working 100% perfectly until this.
After editing in Photoshop, I am returned to the Album interface, red bar and all and the photo is not updated in ALbum.
Obviously, someone didn't talk to someone.
Bottom line: What is the fix, and/or, when will an update be issued. From what I see, this has broght up some weeks ago.
Seeing Album is the root product from whence Photoshop, or another editor would be invoked, this would be an Album issue.
Thank you.

| Before I moved to PSE 3, I used PSA 2 and PS 7 and I always preferred the drag and drop approach to editing. I would take care of my own version control [basically stash away my JPEG original and work on a PSD copy]. When I wanted to work on an image, I'd
simply drag it from PSA into PS. Surely that would work with CS2?
