I need to slowly morph a 250x250 one color square into a "same size"
same color circle.

Slowly = over +/-15 mn.

I discussed this with the person I'm editing the film with and he said
that using reshape, rendering could take about 50hrs on a biproc
macintosh G5. Here are my questions :

- Does it necesarily take so long to render using reshape or is he
overlooking something?

- Can it be done using smart mask interpolation (I found this in
Google)?

- How should I do, especially organize control points so it looks best?

- Ideally, the morping shape would have a drop down shadow (ok not
really a question).

Since we're a short on time, if I don't find a better way, I thought of
superimposing the square over the circle and slowly fading the square
away so we're left with the circle. Any better workaround ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance.

This sounds like an easy way to do it... It will remind you of Bill Bixby
though.. in the old "Incredible Hulk" TV series

50 Hrs sounds a bit long... depends on resolution though. If I were you - I
would run an experiment one night after work.
