| I'm a newbie to the AVID world, using After Effects on a PC system, and was hoping someone out there could tell me which is the best AVID codec to use on rendering a Quicktime out of AE for AVID, from the list below, please?
AVID 1:1X
AVID DNXHD
AVID DV
AVID DV100
AVID MERIDIEN COMPRESSED
AVID MERIDIEN UNCOMPRESSED
AVID PACKED CODEC
Thanks, Gary.

| There is no one answer. I would tell you to ask your Avid Editor. If you are the Avid Editor and it's your system, use the codec that corresponds to your output format (DV / SD / HD / whatever).
FWIW, I render using the Avid Meridien Uncompressed (SD) / ITU-R 601 (16-235) / Meridien Interlaced / NTSC from my G5s for our Media Composers (PC) for Broadcast Air.

| Thank you for that good info, Joey.
My AVID editor is also new to the system, and while we await training we're struggling a bit.
I too found from testing all those codecs that Meridien gave the best results for our workflow, but I'm still getting colour shifts and some softness even after using same codecs and settings exporting from AVID to AE and back again. We're both a little g
reyer-haired but we'll keep trying!
Thanks again.

| You are getting color shifts because of your Editor's import settings. Make sure if you are rendering 601 that the import settings are 601 and not RGB (and visa-versa). It's critical that your import settings match your render settings. Also try rendering
Meridien Uncompressed Interlaced (Lower Field First) for Avid Import. Could be why the ftg is soft.
