Is there a way to get that retro-looking extruded text effect? I'm looking for both the non-perspective extrution and the scale-from-a-point type of effect.

I can only think of doing a duplicate and repeat for each pixel of depth. (And then adding scale and position for the infinity point type). Would there be a snazzy plug-in, expression or script that could help me out?

The Time/Echo plugin duplicates this effect nicely. You need to precompose the animated forward movement of your text, then apply Echo and adjust the parameters until you get the frequency and length of echo you desire.
