Author Static background with animated camera?

Hi folks,

I just started using After Effects yesterday, so please forgive
ignorance...

I have several 3D layers which are set to cast shadows, and a spotlight
casting shadows onto a background (bitmap) set to accept shadows. So
far, so great.

When I animate my camera layer, the background - of course - 'moves' as
the camera moves. As you'd expect. But for this project I want a
slightly surreal feel of the background staying still, and filling the
frame, while 3D objects move around in front of it and cast shadows on
it.

And there's more - I've set the camera aperture wide open to get a
shallow depth of field, and the background changes focus (blurs) as the
camera focus depth is animated. I want to keep this effect with a
static, non-animated background.

Am I asking for too much by wanting to rewrite the laws of physics?

Cheers,

Toby
