| I would like to get an impression of what people think is the best video card to use for the best and fastest preview; I noticed that Adobe has a list of supported cards on their web site. It has general descriptions of cards and may be outdated. Is this
a good card: SAPPHIRE 100557L-RD Radeon 9800PRO 256MB 256-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card Model #: 100557L-RD? Alan Booth

| I think that has full support in AE - opengl, shadows, lights. How much?
I don't believe the video card really affects the speed much.. For rendering, that is.. As you're working in 3D, it helps alot! I think the processor and ram make more of a difference for rendering.

| I use that card in my home setup and it does the job nicely - you can run
several particle generators at the same time with ease and it makes 3D
manipulation much quicker - beware though, that if you start getting weird
artifacts or imprecise preview results, OpenGL might be the culprit...

| What is the different between the new NVDIA card and Blackmagic or Kona2? seems like AE doesn't support opengl for hi-end card like Blackmagic or Kona2.

| The Blackmagic card is a capture card - the others discussed are display
cards

| So that means, Blackmagic or Kona2 can't be used for display or support open GL?
am I right?

| Well, Blackmagic can't - it's a 10bit capture card - not a display card - I
don't have a Kona so I wouldn't know
