Author PhotoDraw won't create new JPGs or GIFs, eats old ones

I use Microsoft PhotoDraw as my graphics program. I find it easy to use
-- lets me do what I need to do without too much fuss. About a three
weeks ago now, it stopped saving files. I'd create a
file in MS PhotoDraw format (.mix) and then go to save it as a JPG or
GIF, and it would appear to save it, but then I could not find the JPG
or GIF file to open it again. I'd get a "file not found" error message.

If I opened an existing JPG and altered it and saved it, the file would
literally disappear from my computer -- could not even find it using
the MS or Google Desktop search functions.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. No help. I scanned for
spyware and viruses. Deleted the spyware; had no viruses. No help. I
used System Restore to set my computer back to when the program was
working. No help. I checked my graphics filters -- they are all
installed, as far as I can
tell. But I used 'add/remove programs' to go into Office and make sure
they were installed. No help.

I downloaded other freeware graphics editors to make sure I could
create and save JPGs and GIFs. I can. Create. Save. Open. Revise. Save.
Open... But if I then opened the JPGs or GIFs in PhotoDraw and saved
them, they would disappear.

I looked online to see if others have this problem and found a few
forums where similar problems, but not exactly the same, have been
discussed. I have not found any solutions that I have not tried.

So if anyone has any ideas.... I'm listening.

I run Windows XP, fully patched and up-to-date.

What version of Office are you running? Installing the beta/preview version
of Office 2007 stops PhotoDraw from working completely.

Do a search for (*.flt) without the parentheses. Rename the GIFIMP32.flt
and the JPEGIM32.flt to GIFIMP32.old and JPEGIM32.old respectively and
reinstall program.
You can right click on the 2 preceding files to see what version that they
are under properties. And where they came from Being - Product Name.

What is it with this Office 2007? Are they not following the necessary
guidelines for standard image files?

I'm running Office 2002 and have been on this system since I installed
PD, which worked for at least a year. Someone suggested a Windows
update (automatically installed) might have caused the problem,
although I did a system restore to when the program was working, and
that did not help.

I will try it and will let folks know if it helps. Thanks.
