Has the conflict between O12 and PDv2 been resolved with the release of the
O12 Beta 2 Technical Refresh?

Having gotten a new notebook last Thursday it was the ideal time to play
around.... Office 2003 + PhotoDraw v2 ... all worked perfectly. With the B2
+ TR, I upgraded ONLY Outlook. And bang, PhotoDraw was messed up totally.
All other Office programs were left at 2003 level.

Right now I'm UNINSTALLING Outlook 12 and much as I do actually prefer it to
Outlook 11, I find PhotoDraw even more essential. So I'll use Office 12 on
my 64 bit Test PC which runs Windows x64 and does all the beta testing...
and stick with the older Office on my more everyday PCs. Such a shame.

I do use PSP v7 and 8 for animated graphics, but for everyday, PhotoDraw
still has them all beat. I don't even have to think when I use it.

BTW It's a Toshiba P105-9132... Core Duo T2500 with 2gb of RAM and 256mb
dedicated GeForce 7900 GS. Really nice piece of work. Just a shame it
won't be using Office 12 really!

This is the most infuriating thing about Office 2007. The re-loading
suggestions don't work (and I have tried on three different computers.

The infuriating thing is that the great strength of Photodraw is in its
handling of text, and the abilty to quickly create a wide variety of text
designs. No other program I have discovered (and I have everything from Adobe
to Corel Painter, and expressions Graphic designer) comes anywhere near. Does
anyone know of such a program?

However, there is a workaround, though it is slightly clumsy. Photodraw
*will* save in .tif, though it won't in jpeg or gif. What I am now doing is
creating a series of images, and then, once saved in .tif format, batch
converting them using Paint Shop Pro X - takes a few extra minutes, not many
- and then using the images in Expressions Web. I tried matching an image I
had originally created before loading Office 7, when this problem didn't
occur. The two images are identical (scale ,etc) - so this method works
satisfactorily.

Microsoft are really missing out on not developing the text graphics
abilities of PhotoDraw - just as they missed out on developing Image
Composer, which for its time was an amaxing little program that came free
with FP (and which I sometimes still use).

There seems to be an inherent comflict between Outlook 12 (2007) and Office
2003/XP -including PhotoDraw. I kept my Office 2003/XP programs, except
Outlook, on my main computer. In addition to the PD problem, everytime Office
Update updated Office 2003 with Office 2007 Beta 2 loaded, Outlook 12 would
no longer open messages (and warned me of the problem) - something that is
fixed using the Repair option on Office 2007 setup. I don't know whether this
will happen in Beta 2 Technical Refresh, since I haven't updated Office 2003
since then - but perhaps it is significant that Outlook 11 is the only
OfficeXP/2003 program you can't keep when loading Office 2007.

Real-Draw Pro (www.mediachance.com, about $55) does really cool text with
little effort. I highly recommend it to all those looking for a general PD2
replacement.

Two versions of Outlook on any release of Office don't play nice together on
the same PC.

I would try running PD in a Virtual Machine on a legacy version of Windows
such as 98 or 2000 which supports it well.
