When I add a shadow to a picture, it disappears if I save in any other than
Photodraw format. Even then, if I try to use it on a webpage, the shadow is
not there.

How can I add a shadow to a picture and use that shadowed picture on a
website.

Add shadow and save as GIF. It should work if the pgm is OK.

Attach a screenshot or a [small!] MIX file if you think it would help.

Be very specific about what you did.

You are working with a single object - the whole image. Therefore, the
object shadow is created outside the image area. You need to resize the
original object (the image) in order to bring the shadow area inside the
image area.
