I'm using PhotoDraw 2000 Version 1 on XP SP2.

When I attempt certain procedures, such as fill text with a texture, I am
prompted to insert CD #2. Is there any way to tell PhotoDraw that the CD has
already been copied to the hard drive, or is there some magic way of copying
it to the hard drive so I don't get this prompt and the program accesses the
textures (or whatever) from the hard drive?

Run the installation again and tell it that CD2 is to be copied to the HDD.

Thank you for the response. I went into setup and first tried to add/remove
components, but it was adamant that everything was already installed and
there was no way I could provoke it into adding anything extra. So I tried
a re-install but that simply announced that installation was complete, with
no choices or options. So I uninstalled it and started over, choosing
custom install in case that was where the option was hiding, but even though
I requested everything to be installed it never asked or prompted for the
second disk. So I uninstalled it again and repeated the default 'typical'
installation in case I had missed the prompt the first time, but that simply
went through a copy process without asking any questions, and the problem
was still there.

So then I tried to add/remove components, but again it insisted that
everything was already installed. I removed that installation and repeated
the install, selecting custom install, and double checked not only that all
boxes were ticked but all options within each box were checked, but again it
simply went through the copy without asking for disk 2, and the problem
remains.

I then uninstalled everything and ran setup from the PhotoDraw folder
instead of the one in the root folder, but it appears that this was the
version that was being used previously, as the process was identical, with
no prompt for disk two.

So I removed everything again and copied the installation folder from disk 1
to the hard drive. I then copied the contents of disk two into the
corresponding folders (Content and Visuals) and reran setup. There was no
prompt for disk two, and when I select brushes the prompt about disk two
still appears, and the disk must be in the drive for the additional objects
to be available.

It's just not practical to use this product with the CD disk always
available in the drive, and I really need a way to get those extra features
on to the hard disk. I would be happy to leave the installation folder where
it is, but it doesn't seem to look at the folder it was installed from, or
even the drive it was installed from, but requires that the second CD must
be in the first available CD drive.

Hi James,

It's been awhile since I had version 1 installed
and don't recall if one of the Options through the
menu has a switch for CD#2 as version 2 does, but
in the Readme.wri file it recommends leaving CD#2
in.

On your v1 CD look for a file named Network.WRI and the
section titled "Installing onto a Network by Copying Disc Contents"
(It doesn't have to be a network install) where it
discusses how to have access to Photodraw 2000 v1
CD#2 contents.

You may be able to skip to step 5 to create the PDSetup.ini
file in notepad and place it in your installed \Photodrw\ folder
without needing to do another uninstall/install.

That certainly sounded promising, but we're not there yet. Using
PDSetup.INI enabled me to get the location of the Disk 2 files on the hard
drive properly registered (according to the Options dialogue). However, the
files weren't found, and I wasn't prompted to insert the CD. I tried to
turn the prompt on, but if I do that I can't exit the options settings with
the default folder location (the one I specified in PDSetup) because it
claims this location is invalid. With the prompt on, the only setting that
it sees as valid is a folder on a CD drive.

However, if I turn the prompt OFF, more locations are perceived as valid.
For instance, if I browse to C:\PhotoDrw it is now accepted as a valid
location. So I move the two sublfolders (CONTENT and VISUALS) to the
C:\PhotoDrw folder, restart, and now it knows the objects exist, but any
attempt to use them creates an error message that the object is missing,
probably because I removed the CD(!).

Following the hint from the default picture location, I change the value to
C:\PhotoDrw\, but that changes nothing.

Considering that the information came from the NETWORK setup readme, I tried
using a UNC location, but anything I entered was rejected as invalid. At
leat I have discovered what I need to do to specify a hard drive location
(within limits), but when I do it doesn't find them.

SO, I started over with the disc 2 files only one folder deep, adjusted the
INI to match, removed everything and reinstalled, and the result is exactly
the same - the objects are listed and displayed in the selection list, but
any attempt to select something from the second CD creates the message that
"The <whatever> you selected may be missing or damaged, or the PhotoDraw CD
was removed from the CD-ROM drive. A Plain style will be used instead."

At least the options setting is now correct, and apparently valid, for the
actual location of the folders CONTENT and VISUALS, so that's progress I
guess.

Any further ideas much appreciated.

Relax. Help is at hand.

Uninstall the program.
Run the install again.
This time go through the install tree (list of what could be installed)
until you find the line that says to copy CD2 to the HDD.

It'll work.

When you say 'install tree' do you mean the list of installable components
that appears when I select Custom Installation (Microsoft PhotoDraw,
Graphics Filters, Help, Tutorial)?

The only one that includes anything under Change Option... is Graphics
Filters. The description is "Imports graphics from the <whatever> format."
and there is no item relating to CD2 or copying.

Or is the option hiding at some other location?

Please look at my first post. That identifies the version I am using.
