I was able to reload PhotoDraw Version 1 and get it to
function properly under XP pro SR1.

This is what worked for me. I have PD ver 1 running
in XP Pro... and yes, I have all the toolbars ect.
YMMV as they say.

I found (stumbled across)this while trying to run
a .bat file in safemode.
It was a bat file I'd cooked from:
http://support.microsoft.com/ yadda blah-blah
KB 286705

I have previously installed the Windows Compatability
thinggy... act30pkg.exe from microsoft... no idea
if any of it's useful or not (in this situation).
I installed the ACT to try and cook a mode for the
PD install. No luck.

First. I ran regedit. I did a search for "photodraw"
and removed *any* and *all* instances of the
word "photodraw".

Then I removed a crippled install of PhotoDraw
under the standard "Control Panel" "Add/Remove".

Copied PD folder from CD#3 of Office 2000 Premium
to root on C:\ . Changed folder name .
(changed mine to "photold"...doubt it matters)

Rebooted to "SafeMode with Command Prompt".
....it's the F8 thing while XP loads...

This part is a pain....

I had to repeat this move 3 times for 3 separate files
in the C:\photold folder (in my case).
The scam is to change the "compatability mode" to Win95
for:
"acmsetup.exe"
"hhupd.exe"
and
"setup.exe"

(this is repeated for each of the three files)

1. Using the "task manager" (Cntrl+Alt+Delete)
2. Selected "new task".
3. "Browse" to c:\photold (whatever you re-named)
4. Right-click to "properties" for 1 of the 3 files.
5. **tricky part** At least for me....
Do NOT execute any of the files.
"Cancel" you way back to the "Task Manager".
Minimize the "Task Manager".
This is where I "found" the "property box" for
the file I had selected. I changed the
"compatibility mode" to "Win95" and clicked
"apply".
6. Maximize "Task Manager"...Browse to the 2nd File,
right-click to properties, cancel back to "Task
Manager", minimize. Change compatability on the
2nd file, apply.
7. Maximize "Task Manager"...Browse to the 3rd File,
right-click to properties, cancel back to "Task
Manager", minimize. Change compatability on the
3rd file, apply.
***note** you have now set the compatibility mode on
all three executables to "Win95".
"Win98/2000" might work. Don't know.
Don't care.
8. Finally. In "Task Manager". "New Task". Select
setup.exe in your photodraw folder. Run baby run.
9. When the install is complete...I got a couple of
semi-strange error messages...didn't care....
10. ShutDown out of SafeMode.
11. Boot to XP
12. Use PhotoDraw. a blast from the past. Mine seems to
have adopted the newer file naming conventions and
directory structure. I have all toolbars and stuff.
Don't forget to put your "Tools"-"Options" back how
you want them.

Good Luck. Worked for me.
Best, m
