as I can not be sure it was then or not
I had the same problem. Go to microsoft knowledge base article 250833.
You will need to copy the file from your CD to you hard drive. Go to safe mode, uninstall the existing program, reboot tosafemode and double click the setup.exe file on your hard drive to install it.
NOTE you must be logged in as administrator in XP.
It fixed my problems. The program is now working fine.
