How do I save a PhotoDraw picture in JPEG format?
|
|

| I'm trying to create several images using PhotoDraw 2000
for a small personal website. I love using this
application since it gives me the results I want. The
problem is that I want to save them as JPEG. If I save
them as MIX, the pictures don't want to come out and take
a lot of space in my floppy. If I save them as GIF, they
come out kind of ugly, and those seem to be my only format
options.
If I copy and paste a picture from PhotoDraw 2000 into
Paint, then I could save it as JPEG. The only problem is
that when I put them in my webpage, they now have like a
white area (usually a square or rectangle) around them
that I don't want.
What can I do? I don't want them to come out with that
white area nor lose any quality if I save it as GIF. I
want JPEG since they don't take much space, they're of
better quality, and I won't have that white area around
them.

| Did you try the "Save for use in..." option

| If you are using the original PhotoDraw (Version 1) that came with Microsoft
Office 2000 Premium Edition, that could explain the problem. The fix
involves getting JPEG back into your list of options.
Download MSICUU.EXE (MicroSoft Installer CleanUp Utility) from MSFT. It can
clean out all registry entries for PhotoDraw (or many other programs),
whereupon reinstalling PhotoDraw should work. Read the MSICUU.EXE download
page *carefully* and use the program carefully. You are not offered any
options during the install, and you may have to hunt for the install
location, nominally "C:\Program Files\Windows Installer Cleanup".
If that doesn't work (it should), try searching the MSFT Knowledge Base for
"PhotoDraw", "PhotoDraw won't save JPEG", and similar.
Good luck.

| As a matter of fact, that's the version I'm using!
Another website shos that JPEG should be on the list of
formats, but it doesn't appear on mine. I'll try what you
said!

| Let me know how it goes.
| |
|
| OK, I downloaded it, but it doesn't seem to have made any
difference. I clicked on the "Windows Install Clean Up" on
Start->Programs->Windows Install Clean Up but it only
shows a window with a bunch of programs listed, but I
don't see PhotoDraw 2000.

| Something's wrong, but I can't tell you what without being able to sit at
your computer. If you have a big list of programs (I do), look through them
carefully. You should find it under "Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000," but not
necessarily in alphabetical order.
Do you have other Microsoft Office 2000 components listed? If not, MSICUU
doesn't know about Office.
When my PhotoDraw 1 had that problem a few years ago, I spent a lot of time
with MSFT techs. They recommended the then-current version of MSICUU. I used
it on more than one occasion and it worked fine. Then PhotoDraw 2 came
along, and hallelujah, no more problems and a *vastly* improved program.
Good luck.

| Just Curious:
Browse to a page you know has a jpeg with IE, right click and see if you
have the save as jpeg option before we go further.
