Permanently group items

| I just want to paint on the background, but everytime I switch tools,
it creates another object. I want to permanently combine these
objects. Is there a way?
I can save the file as a GIF and reload it, that works, but I was
hoping for something simpler.
Thanks.

| That's a challenge in PD. One way to do it is to slide everything but the
paint objects off the background, group them, and save them as a flattened
MIX file. That way they will stay grouped, but will be available as a
separate object from the rest of the image.
Pain in the butt.

| Hold the shift key and select your objects and go to Arrange Group.

Strictly speaking, I guess I didn't really want to group stuff at all,
but paint it all onto the background or a base layer or somesuch. I
know I've seen that on other editors.
